To the majority of the Faunid population, Lifesource X is eternal and always has been since the beginning of time.

To those that dedicate their lives researching and understanding this power,  it is far more complicated than that. Around the same time as when Herne supposedly gifted primordial fauns their gift of extraordinary intelligence, Herne blessed a gift to every living being upon the Earth. This gift is most well known as Lifesource X, or simply 'X' for shorthand. A primal power that allowed nearly every current lifeform a further chance to succeed in their niche and survive the increasingly dangerous environment.

As Faunid intelligence and sentience grew to nearly equal that of our own human intelligence, the primality that they once harbored faded. It is presumed that it is this primal behavior that most easily harbors the usage of X as observed through other species relatively unchanged and extremely mutated. While their increased brain function masked the powers they all once had as pure unchanged primal faunids, it now allows them to gain full control of their own personal X and use it at will after intense training.

The base "collections" of X are typically connected biologically to the living subject. Only three collections of X have been officially stated and compounded into a consumable education for the willing public. However researchers are very aware of the possibility of unknown collections that may exist in remote areas of the world. It is generally accepted that faunids have limited collections available to use at their will due to their instinctual harmonious behavior instilled by Herne. Upon corruption, their X capabilities can become much more volatile and dangerous.

The ability to channel one's Lifesource X is restricted solely to those who dedicate months, if not years, to learning how to do as such. A select few faunids have created a curriculum simple enough for others to understand. Each tutor has their different methods and end results.

Actively Natural X

The natural usage of Lifesource X that is directly linked to 'primal' animals is known as Actively Natural X. This form of X is used in indirect ways that is only used instinctively. Several examples follow as such:

- Vinnde Foxes warming their bodies in below freezing temperatures.

- Racers reviving dying foliage to an edible state.

- Daedelics using electricity to stun prey before consumption.

- Lapines casting mild hallucinations to predators.

- Antler Island fish glowing to attract possible prey

Imbued X Usage

What may be considered as the opposite of Actively Natural X, is the process of being Imbued with X. This process refers to whatever practices the assisting tutor instructs the student to do in order to gain control of their inner Lifesource. Imbued X is deliberately executed to perform a specific task. Gaining control of one's Imbued X can cause a temporary rise in instinctive actions that resemble Active Natural X.

- A faunid reviving a dying plant they forgot to water for the 4th time.

- Casting rays of light from their hands to illuminate a cave.

- Corrupted faunids temporarily cursing nearby creatures with extreme illness.

Direct Transfer

Not only can X be obtained through thorough teachings, but it can also be obtained through gruesome acts of violence. With a subject that has viable and potent Lifesource X within them, predators can "harvest" and ingest their X. This can only be successful while the victim is alive. Psychologically advanced creatures face the same conundrum that Faunids face but at a much much lesser degree. So to counteract their lack of naturally produced X, these creatures either hunt or specifically search out flora rich with X.

In the case of group predators, lead animals and their offspring eat first, typically eating the prey while it is still alive, so they “inherit” the remaining X within the lifesource of that animal. Only a very small trace is left within the carcass within 30 minutes after death.

Storm Collection

Hey there, Newcomer!

Let me introduce myself. My name is _____, but my enemies call me Hothead. I don't try to be so outgoing about my appearance but they just can't stop reminding me, apparently!

Let me tell you a thing or two about my area of expertise, the Storm Collection of X.

As the name implies, the Storm Collection mainly consists of actions that correlate alongside naturally occurring... occurrences.. that ... occur.. naturally. You get what I mean, let's get on with it.

My course of study is research heavy and focuses on truly understanding the element you are wishing to Imbue within you. There is always more to learn!

Here, let me give you a list of a few of the things that the Storm Collection encompasses!

Purity Collection

Greetings, Friend!

I figure you're not here for me. Maybe on another day, haha! I'm the main tutor for the Purity Collection, _____. And you seem to be my newest protegee. I feel like you already know all this, but let me give you a slight refresher on what my Collection consists of and requires.

While you don't need to be "pure" to be Imbued here- by Herne he knows what I do on the weekends, but it does not hurt to be a compassionate soul. My style of teaching, in brief, requires self reflection and inner peace. For this allows external impurities to enter your soul and be cleansed. Talking to Herne and his Companions, meditating, acts of love and peace, and countless other balanced acts that incite inner peace. That is all it takes.

Allow me to list off only a few of my routes of teaching. I don't want to spoil any surprises I have.

~ The most basic act that any student can learn is the act of removing impurities from sources like water, fauna, and air.

~ More complicated is curing venom and poison inflicted on living beings. Very taxing.

~ Most popular is the ability to promote the growth of botanicals and promote healing on wounds.

~ Less popular is dowsing, if you have a connection to a subject, you will be able to locate it physically.

Let's cut to the chase. You are here to listen to me, and doing otherwise is not an option. I'm The Blade, and you are a pawn. The Chaos Collection is only for Corrupted shedheads and bloody anarchists - if you live within Hernlak or any of its offshoots controlled by absolute-religion, this is not a safe place for you, and you should leave.

Now. I will aid you in your struggles but do not expect me to hold your hand, and if you waste my time? I will gladly take an easy Direct Transfer. But- if you stick with me, you and I can burn the roots of the world and create an idyllic world where no one can touch us.

I suppose I should give a rundown on "my style of teaching" like I'm sure the other heavy-foots have done. Unlike them, you will instantly be Imbued with your Lifesource. All I do is shape your ability to control it and stop yourself from rotting your body from the inside out. It's all worth it in the end, if you aren't weak. The power you gain will outweigh your unsurmountable agony.

At first, you may have one of these "symptoms":

You'll be able to reanimate the dead. Inconvenient when you're trying to hunt, but it has its uses.

Others can be poisoned, famished, and feel unknown pain near you - extremely useful for knowledge gathering. You'll be able to control it at a later point. Unless "others" is yourself.

Random flashes of Truth and Knowledge will fill your vision until you can summon it on command- mine usually comes in voices, but they can be more intrusive. Hope you're lucky!

And one of my personal favorites, creating temporary life from inanimate objects. They can do anything you wish of it - I enjoy making them clean up my trash.

Although Lifesource X may resemble magic, it is much more limited than typical high fantasy magic.

While Deertush is willing to discuss possible abilities that coincide with the available Collections,

the below powers are non-negotiable.

Transmutation, remaking/recreation, illusion, replication, force-fields, absorption, invocation, invisibility,

flight, constructs, teleporting, precognition, time travel, mental/emotional manipulation,

Creating things out of thin air, teleporting, high magic(harry potter style) are not possible.

Lifesource Inabilities

Exceptions

Due to specific evolutions in creatures that correlated with the species’ Lifesource X,

some subjects can have feats that are not able to be recreated at all by a faunid.

Such as; camouflage reflectivity(storm), strength surge(chaos), Illusion(Chaos),

Oxygen collection/underwater breathing(storm), extrasensory perception(purity),

and other abilities that are not able to be completed by Faunids.

Over usage

When a user consistently uses X in large amounts, requiring heavy repetitive effort, the user’s body will degrade without proper self care and precautions.

The toll of an incredible act on the first trial may cause a minor headache at worst.

However, the toll of an extraordinary act the hundredth time within a year may cause a full blackout or bodily “rot”.

Over usage can occur in any creature that actively uses their Lifesource X, intentionally or instinctively.

X Toxicity

Flora and Fauna that manage to flourish 100s of years old will have extreme proportions of X. The most common subjects that are prone to this seeming immortality consist of but are not limited to; Currensuchus, Giant Tortoises, Holy Trees, and Racers. The common act of consuming the flesh of a creature with Active X is common within corrupted individuals as well as natural predators; While uncommon and limited only to inexperienced carnivores, consuming these amounts of X is deadly and may cause internal combustion or excessive rot. Among other things.

When using X on very young and senior individuals, users must be very careful. Young and undeveloped systems can react in unpredictable ways that may result in death. Senior Lifesource X fatalities are typically from heart attacks and excessive force.

X with Corrupted Faunids

This only applies to corrupted fauns. Consuming incredible amounts of X typically leads to X toxicity. The exception to this is solely fauns who use excess consumption of X to compensate for extraordinary acts preformed close to consumption. The user will typically revert to an extremely primal form after excessive use and social intelligence decreases to the point of losing speech capabilities. This is extremely rare as it is even looked down on within most corrupted communities.

Almost always performed after the death of a corrupted comrade, there is a ritual that requires the body of the deceased and a creature with high levels of Lifesource within it. The creature is cut open while it is alive and bleeds onto the deceased. There is a higher chance of failure with lower traces of X. This can make taught Fauns vulnerable if other sources are not as easily accessible.
